45 Fridays

Welcome to the first installment of 45 Fridays! Every Friday I'm gonna showcase a different 45 and give you insight on some classic music that might be forgotten. Let's gooooo!

First 45 is... Ike and Tina Turner song "Funkier Than a Mosquito's Tweeter" which is actually a cover originally done by Nina Simone. Nina first released this track on 45 with "Save Me" as the A-side in 1969 (Madlib fans Weldon Irvine was the conductor on the original Mosquito). The track wasn't released on an LP until 1974, It Is Finished on RCA is amazing from beginning to end if you get a chance to check it out. Now Ike and Tina: They released a cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival's Proud Mary on 45 in 1971 on Liberty, guess what was on the flip? A Funky-ass cover of Nina's song that breathed new life into it! Funkay stuff here...

See ya in the crates!
